The Civil War

Abraham Lincoln

After the election of 1860, seven Southern states formed the Confederate States of America with several other states still weighing their loyalties to the Union. On April 12, 1861, the South Carolina militia fired on the Federal fort Sumter. The first shots of the Civil War had been fired. Four more Southern states seceded and the bloodiest chapter in American history had began. By the end of the war, 750,000 Americans had died, slavery was on its way out, and the Confederacy had come to an end.
